| Metrosexual - The New Breed
of Men |
Metrosexual. As oppose
to a homosexual or a heterosexual, a metrosexual is a person who
is not only in-love with himself, but all that epitomizes the urban
lifestlye. To simply put, a man who is in-touch with his feminine
side. So I guess you can call them "metros".
While I was watching TV they showed the Channel 11 news commercial,
and they're going to feature these new breed of men called Metrosexuals.
So naturally, I Googled it and found a handful of websites that
talks about it. Apparently, it's the new buzz word among the yuppies
(young urban professionals). Soon enough, you'll be surprised that
the disheveled, uncombed, unfastidious guy you once knew will join
that bandwagon and embrace this new lifestyle.
So how do you spot a metrosexual? They are a bunch of sensitive,
well-educated, straight men who usually lives in an urban setting.
They go to the salon instead of the barbershop to have their hair
done as oppose to a haircut. Some of them would probably have a
manicure and pedicure scheduled on their PDAs. They love to shop,
they love to pamper themselves with the best skin and hair products,
and would go to a fitness center and not the local gym.
So do I think being a metrosexual is shallow? Most definitely! Do
I think that everybody should at least try it? MOST DEFINITELY!
I think this has been long overdue in the straight world. Gay men
has been doing it for years. There's nothing wrong with being in-touch
with your feminine side. Believe me, having a manicure and pedicure
will NOT make you gay - it'll make you clean! What's wrong with
taking care of the body? What's wrong with a little bit of pampering
when you're financially able? Afterall, our body is a temple, right?
What makes these men break the male stereotype anyway? Because,
being a "chick-magnet" does require work and sacrifices.
Besides, a lot of these male-oriented are now encouraging men not
only to exercise and be healthy, but also to be fashionable. Have
you seen the new breed of shows lately? It's all about makeovers.
Not that there's a lot of hideous people out there, but let's all
admit it ... we do need help once and a while. |
