| Picnic or Cookout?
Apparently, other than the definition I just learned last week, there is a difference. Picnic is a gathering where people eat pre-cooked food. While a cookout is actually cooking the food at the place of gathering (e.g. tailgate party or barbecue). Wow! All these time.
But anyway. I really thought a picnic and a cookout is the same thing, until one of my co-workers invited me to her cookout last week. So, we started chatting about what type of food will be served? Who will be at this shindig? Where will it be? And then, since I wasn't used to saying "cookout", I believe I said something to the effect of, "Alright! I'll see you at the picnic then!". She and my other co-worker just stared at me like I have a snake crawling on my head! Almost in unison, they sorta yelled "COOKOUT! Not a picnic!". So naturally, I said, "What's the fucking difference?!".
When they were explaining it to me, my initial reaction was appalled. And then they started saying that it's not really true but just an urban legend. I refuse to write what they said here, so I'll just give you the link.
But if you don't feel like reading the link, then let me just say that "picnic" is not a derogatory word. It does not originate date back in the slavery days. It has nothing to do with "lynching". It's just a French word that denotes a party at which everyone brings food. MEANWHILE, there's a 2000 National Post article where the SUNY campus in Albany had to change their "picnic" to "outing" because of the offensive word. And by changing it to "outing", the gays took offense to that. Yeah ... so where does that leave them? That's right! Cookout.

I was going to end my post, but I just needed to write this to get it out of my chest.
I'm tired of being nice to people. I'm tired of pleasing people just so we can be friends. I'm tired of agreeing to everything you say just because. God knows I tried. But I'm tired. I have no time for people like that anymore. People like that can catch on fire and I would even waste my time peeing on them.
